HI,

I have Oracle 9i client installed on my desktop. I am trying to create a database on my desktop. I have set ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME variables

When i try to connect using following command

sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

i am experiencing the above�following problem

ORA-24314 service handle not initialized

Please let me know how to resolve this.

is that a client installation or database server installation?
Please make sure u have ORACLE_SID set properly ( with proper naming conventions) and
The oracle services are started.

Hi Mahesh,

I am having client installation on my desktop..
Is it mandatory to have server installation.
Please let me know.. how this makes difference.

you cannot create a database with client installation.
INSTALL server components

I have installed oracle 9i on my computer .operating system is window XP. but i am not able to start the oracle. error is ora 24314 and ora 12560
